Palazzo delle Meraviglie - Milan Design Week 2024

Milan Design Week 2024 promises to be a vibrant melting pot of creativity, innovation, and artistic expression. Among the myriad events and exhibitions gracing the city, the fifth edition of the “Palazzo delle Meraviglie” collective stands out as a beacon of design excellence. Hosted at the esteemed Casa del Manzoni, this year’s edition brings together an eclectic ensemble of international architects and designers, each bringing their unique vision and expertise to the forefront.
Curated by designer Katrin Herden in collaboration with architect Alessandro Zarinelli of Studio MHZ, the special Wunderkammer promises an immersive journey through a world of furnishings and complements crafted by some of the most talented minds in the industry. Set against the backdrop of Casa del Manzoni, the historic residence of Italian author Alessandro Manzoni, the exhibition offers a captivating blend of tradition and modernity, creating a truly unforgettable experience for visitors.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the visionary proposal by Portuguese designer Micael Carvalho, whose innovative approach to interior design has captivated audiences at Milan Design Week year after year. Through his HOMMÉS Studio, Carvalho seeks to push the boundaries of contemporary design, crafting bold and distinctive pieces that seamlessly blend form and function. With an emphasis on creativity and authenticity, Carvalho’s designs offer a fresh perspective on the intersection of art and craftsmanship.
Another standout designer featured in the exhibition is Vincent Canteart, the creative mind behind the renowned MamaGreen brand. With a focus on clean lines and high-quality materials, Canteart’s outdoor furniture designs exude elegance and sophistication. Drawing inspiration from his Belgian roots and global travels, Canteart creates pieces that strike the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality, elevating outdoor living spaces to new heights of luxury.

The exhibition also pays homage to the rich tradition of French craftsmanship, with rug lines from historic house PINTON showcased alongside tapestries by artist Sonia Delaunay. Known for its exquisite Aubusson rugs and tapestries, PINTON has long been a beacon of excellence in the world of textile design. Through collaborations with renowned artists and designers, PINTON continues to push the boundaries of creativity, offering a stunning array of woven masterpieces that celebrate the beauty of color and texture.
Rounding out the exhibition is a capsule collection by Mariella and Laura Torri, the creative duo behind Softhouse. Drawing inspiration from the fusion of past and present, the Torri sisters have crafted a collection that celebrates the timeless elegance of Italian design. From sculptural armchairs to iconic sofas, each piece reflects Softhouse’s distinctive style and commitment to quality craftsmanship.

At the heart of the exhibition is Katrin Herden herself, whose passion for textiles and keen eye for beauty have helped shape the eclectic mix of designs on display. Through her brand Sohil, Herden offers a curated selection of bespoke pillows that embody the essence of eclectic style. From embroidered fabrics sourced from India to vintage pieces from storied French houses, each pillow tells a story of its own, adding a touch of personality to any space.
As visitors embark on their journey through Palazzo delle Meraviglie 2024, they are invited to explore the boundless creativity and innovation of the designers featured in the exhibition.
